Ballado's Devil had a head in front of Juan Valdez at the three-quarter marker in 1:13.06 as Forever Monteiro was another three-lengths back in third position.  At the mile marker Ballado's Devil  had opened the lead to a length and a half as  French Smile, after starting his drive in the four path of the final turn, then drew off through the stretch under a mostly hand ride winning the fourth installment of the Malouf Starter Series by nineteen and one-quarter lengths in a final time of 2:06.97.  Ballado's Devil proved empty for the drive but managed to hold on for place as Late Again got the show.  French Smile is a five-year-old bay horse owned by Need To Know Stable & Peter R. Walder, trained by Peter R. Walder and was ridden by Carlos Cruz.

Finish Wire:

Deputy Storm led the field through five furlongs, blazing through a quarter in 21.31 and the half-mile in an equally snappy 43.82, before giving way in deep stretch to Dashboard Drummer, who briefly unsettled at the start, rated back inside, started his drive angling out through the turn, was widest turning for home, sustained a long drive drifting out through the stretch and drew clear in the final yards to win The 2003 Sapling.  After setting torrid early fractions Deputy Storm held on for place as Charming Jim ran well for third.  Dashboard Drummer is a two-year-old dark bay/brown gelding owned by Double S. Preferred Pals & E. Wachtel, trained by Allen Iwinski and was ridden by Jose C. Ferrer.

Something Smith led the field through early fractions of 21.31 and 43.97 leading Gators N Bears by two lengths entering the stretch while Rockin On Ready was farther back in third.  In deep stretch Gators N Bears closed down on the leader and reached Something Smith leaving the furlong grounds then finished well while drawing clear late for the victory in The Rumson Stakes.  Something Smith  was no match late for the winner, but was clearly second best, while Rockin On Ready was third. Gators N Bears is a three-year old bay colt owned and trained by Leo S. Nechamkin, II, and was ridden by Chuck C. Lopez.

River Power was able to rate on the lead and get the opening half-mile in 48.80 while Beknown To Me tracked the leader a head back in second.  Make Mike's Day was another two lengths back in third.  Entering the far turn Sea Of Tranquility started to make a move on the outside making up ground on the leaders as Beknown To Me got three-quarters in 1:13.01, as the field moved into the stretch.  In deep stretch Sea Of Tranquility took the lead from Beknown To Me and drew off to a two and one-quarter lengths victory in The Jersey Breeders' Handicap.  Beknown To Me finished a hard fought second while Graze was up for third.  Sea Of Tranquility is a seven-year-old chestnut horse owned by Triple M Farm, trained by Richard E. Paulus and was ridden by Jose C. Ferrer.

Joe Bravo put Uphill Skier on the lead shortly after the start and carved fraction of 23.58, 47.38 and three-quarters in a moderate 1:12.26 with plenty in the tank for the stretch drive wiring the field by five lengths en route to victory in The $50,000 Highlands Stakes.  Out Of The Will was second best as Eastern Gale closed for third.  Uphill Skier is a three-year-old bay filly owned by New Farm, trained by Ben Perkins, Jr. and was ridden by Joe Bravo.

Tangier Sound sped to the lead after the break and led the field from gate to wire, running swift fractions of 21.60, 44.15, completing the five furlongs in 55.91, en route to victory in The $50,000 Klassy Briefcase Stakes.  Melody Of Colors angled in rating back and off the rail, made a bid from the quarter pole and closed well inside for place, while Amber’s Way, after breaking through the gate prior to the start, chased the pace inside, eased off the rail on the turn then leveled out in the drive to finish third. Tangier Sound is a four-year-old bay filly owned by Conover Stable, trained by James T. Ryerson, and was ridden by Julian Pimentel.

Feisty Bull took to the lead after the start and rated clear by two lengths on the lead getting the half mile in 50.24 and three-quarters in 1:14.81.  Feisty Bull continued on the lead through the far turn as Six Pack Sally cut the lead to a half length as it was another length and a half back to Lady Prantlack in third.  In the stretch Feisty Bull drew clear again and held well with steady handling by Chuck C. Lopez to win the Twin Lights Stakes by three-quarters of a length at the wire in a final time of 1:43.99.  Sarie Marais, who had rated back in the four path early on, angled in making her bid entering the stretch, closed well but was too late finishing second. Ladyecho made her bid angling out entering the stretch, closed well but was too late finishing evenly for third.  Feisty Bull is a three-year-old gray/roan filly owned by Daniel J. Feiss, trained by J. Michael Rogers and was ridden by Chuck C. Lopez.

Loving Lucy took the lead from Wage A Penny at the half mile pole in a pokey 49.96 and opened up her lead through the far turn leaving the field to fight it out for second place.  In deep stretch Loving Lucy opened up by five and poured it on to the wire to win The Junior Champion Stakes by a widening eleven and three-quarter lengths in a final time of 1:40.43.  Wage A Penny who had the early lead, settled in at the heels of the winner toward the inside through the backstretch, then gave chase three wide on the final turn then languished in the stretch proving no match for the winner, but held on for second.  Dreamadreamforme rated off the pace outside, was widest on both turns and finished evenly for third.  Loving Lucy is a two-year-old chestnut filly owned by Michael J. Gill, trained by Mark Shuman and was ridden by Jose C. Ferrer.

Katie Kreitz was loose on the early lead getting the opening fractions of 23.67, 47.97 and 1:11.69 before giving way to Cocktailsandreams through the far turn.  Twilights Prayer ran evenly in second while Something Ventured was gearing up for the stretch drive now in third.  Cocktailsandreams took a length and a half lead into the stretch but was outfinished nearing the wire by Volga, who was behind a wall of horses leaving the quarter pole, angled to the outside making her bid at the top of the stretch, advanced steadily and was clear in the final yards for the victory in The Grade III Matchmaker Handicap by a length and three-quarters in a final time of 1:48.22.  Something Ventured made her bid from the top of the stretch and advanced to place in the final yards, while Cocktailsandreams was outfinished through the final sixteenth but held on for third.  Volga is a five-year-old dark bay/brown mare owned by Joseph Allen, trained by Christophe Clement and was ridden by Joe Bravo.
