The Monmouth Breeders' Cup Oaks Grade II $250,000 For Fillies, Three-Years-Old One And One-Eighth Miles - Main Track Saturday, August 17, 2002 Race 9 Track: Fast Turf: Firm Finish Wire: Sixtyone Margaux led the field through the opening three-quarters of a mile in 1:37.40 being pressed by Bronze Autumn who ran a head back in second. It was another length and one-half back to Alternate in third as the field entered the stretch. At the top of the lane Sixtyone Marguax was desperately holding onto the lead as Bronze Autumn was not able to gain any ground in second. In deep stretch, the front runners began to give way as Magic Storm came on late and got up by a half-length at the wire to win The Monmouth Breeders' Cup Oaks in a final time of 1:51.17. Alternate after running behind the early pacesetter closed for second as Bronze Autumn settled for third. Magic Storm is a three-year-old dark bay/brown filly owned by Overbrook Farm, trained by D. $50,000 For Two-Years- Olds One Mile - Turf Course Moved To The Main Track Sunday, August 18, 2002 Race 6 Track: Fast Turf: No Turf Racing Finish Wire: My Boy Kyle led the field through a pedestrian half-mile in 48.03 as Bring Out The Best sat a head off the leader. It was another half-length back to Most Feared while Lismore Knight ran in fourth position. As the field moved through the far turn, Most Feared took the lead as My Boy Kyle was now running in second position. Bring Out The Best still ran in third as the field moved through the stretch. In deep stretch, Most Feared opened up by a length and one-half leaving My Boy Kyle behind running for second. At the wire Most Feared won The Continental Mile Stakes by nine and one-quarter lengths on the wire in time of 1:38.06. $65,000 For Three-Year-Olds Six Furlongs - Main Track Sunday, August 18, 2002 Race 9 Track: Fast Turf: No Turf Racing Finish Wire: Calends broke alertly and took to the early lead blazing the opening quarter mile in speedy 21.34 and running the half-mile in a just as torrid 43.49 as Our Wildcat intently stalked the leader another half-length back in second position as it was another length back to Outstander in third position. Through the stretch and to the wire it was now a three horse race as the three horses raced as a group to the wire as Our Wildcat got up by three-quarters of a length to win The Rumson Stakes in final time of 1:09.35. Grade II (67th Running) $350,000 A Handicap For Three-Year-Olds And Upward One and One-Eighth Miles - Main Track Sunday, August 18, 2002 Race 10 Track: Fast Turf: No Turf Racing Finish Wire: The field let Cat's At Home settle in on the lead and carve out moderate opening fractions of 23.16, 47.23 and three-quarters of a mile in 1:10.68 a length in front of Gerosa and another two lengths in front of Bowman's Band. Heavy betting favorite, Include, was back in the pack running hard but was not looking as if he would make a real threat to win the race. In the stretch, Bowman's Band got within a half-length of the leader but Jose Velez, Jr. asked Cat's At Home for more and drew off again winning the Grade II Iselin Handicap by three-quarters of a length on the wire in a final time of 1:49.10. Bowman's Band held on for second as Runspastum ran third. Cat's At Home is a five-year-old bay horse owned by Edward P. Evans, trained by Mark A. Hennig and was ridden by Jose Velez, Jr. |
