Finish Wire:

Summer Shenanigans was best out of the gate and took the early lead.  She was tracked intently by Stormy Pick, who after breaking in the air at the start rushed into contention, in second as Caty's Quest ran third.  Summer Shenanigans ran the opening quarter in 21:2.  As the field entered the far turn Stormy Pick took the lead as Summer Shenanigans dropped back to second as Caty's Quest was now over two lengths back in third as the leaders were pulling away.  The other two runners in the race, Orhan Avie and Enhancing, were five lengths back and never became a factor in the race.  At the top of the stretch Stormy Pick straightened out and moved to a one and one half length lead as Summer Shenanigans chased the winner through the stretch and to the wire.  At the wire Stormy Pick had won the 2001 edition of The Dearly Precious Stakes by two lengths.  Summer Shenanigans held on for second as Caty's Quest ran third. In deep stretch, H.M.S. Five And One-Half Furlongs

Sunday, July 29, 2001        Race 10

Main Track - Fast

Finish Wire:

Out of the gate Square Cut Diamond bobbled at the start and spotted the field four lengths before rushing up into contention as the field moved into the far turn.  Outstander led the field through an opening quarter of 22:3 as Storm Passage pressed the pace a half-length back in second as Square Cut Diamond now ran third a head in front of Pure Precision.  As the field moved through the far turn Outstander maintained his lead as Storm Passage was breathing down his neck in second.  Pure Precision was clearly in third as Square Cut Diamond was throwing in the towel after expending too much energy to get into the race after the tardy start.  In deep stretch, Pure Precision moved past the two early front runners, Outstander and Storm Passage, and went on to win The Tyro Stakes by three-quarters of a length.  Doc Wild, who was at the back of the pack early on, got up for second as Outstander ran third after setting the early pace.  Pure Precision is a two-year-old colt owned by Kinsman Stable, trained by John Tammaro, III and was ridden by Jose Velez, Jr.
