The Longfellow Stakes

$75,000  Match Series Race

For Three Years Old And Upward

Six Furlongs - Main Track

Saturday, June 23, 2001

Track: Fast                Turf: Firm

Finish Wire:

I'm Sentimental was away from the gate first and led the field through an opening quarter of 21:2.  Personal First tracked the leader a length back while Max's Pal was content to sit behind Personal First in third position.  As the field moved through the far turn I'm Sentimental still had the lead over Max's Pal who was looming large moving to the outside for the stretch drive.  Personal First was now dropping out of contention as the field was now moving through the lane.  In deep stretch Max's Pal, the betting favorite, took command and drew off to win by three lengths at the wire to win The Longfellow Stakes.  After setting the early pace I'm Sentimental held on for second as Personal First ran third.  Max's Pal is a four-year-old colt owned by Raymond Dweck, trained by Ben W. Perkins, Jr., and was ridden by Rick Wilson.
