Finish Wire:

Winged Delite led the field through an opening quarter of 22:0 pressed closely by Eleven North and her entry mate Sally Q who ran third. Through the turn Eleven North captured the lead from Winged Delite as Sally Q still continued run third as Anjiz Slew was starting to gear up moving into fifth position as the field moved into the stretch.  The half mile was run in 45:0.  In deep stretch, Eleven North still held the lead as Anjiz Slew was picking off horses through the lane.  Winged Delite and Sally Q were now dropping back.  At the wire Anjiz Slew got up to win the Open Mind Handicap by one length at the wire over Eleven North, who ran second, and another three and three-quarter lengths back to Arpeggio who ran third. Anjiz Slew is a five year old mare owned by Menotti Lembo, trained by Manuel Berrios and was ridden by Roberto Alvarado.

Vikki Slew led the through an opening half mile of 46:1 followed by Pic A Lil  and Gowestforgold.  At the three quarter marker Pic A Lil took the lead as Wittenberg had moved into second position while the early leaders dropped back.  In deep stretch Wittenberg continuing his late drive, took the lead and drew off to win by a widening five and three quarter lengths at the wire. Powerful Package was up for second and Resort got up at the wire for third.  Wittenberg is a five year old mare owned by G. Watts Humphrey, Jr., trained by Victoria Oliver and was ridden by Dale Beckner.

Wittenberg wins the Monmouth Beach Stakes in impressive fashion with Dale Beckner aboard.

Finish Wire:

After a good start, El Mirasol took command and led the field through an opening quarter of 24:2 followed closely by Runspastum in second and Indy Vidual who tracked the leaders in third position.  As the field made its way down the backside El Mirasol continued to lead running the half mile in a moderate 48:2 still followed by Runspastum and Indy Vidual.  Trying to wire the field, El Mirasol, led the field into the home stretch as Indy Vidual, who made a four wide move in the turn, tried to take command as El Mirasol was battled to keep control.  From the back of the back Ready To Roll evenly gained position through the turn and made an inside move in the stretch, to run down the leaders, battling Indy Vidual to the wire to win the Battlefield Stakes by a nose in a time of 1:47:1.  Indy Vidual ran second and Crash Course was another three quarters of a length back in third.  Ready To Roll is a six year old gelding owned by Mac Fehsenfeld, trained by Dennis J. Manning and was ridden by Roberto Alvarado.

At the break Tasty Caberneigh went to the lead as Davy Jones was content to track the pace in second as Rapid Ryan, Spruce Run and American Prince all jostled for third position.  Tasty Caberneigh ran the opening quarter in a moderate 24:0.  Down the backside Tasty Caberneigh continued to show the way as Spruce Run made a move along the inside to take second position as Davy Jones ran third content to maintain his outside position entering the far turn.  Through the turn Spruce Run took the lead as Davy Jones moved back into second as Tasty Caberneigh was dropping back in third.  Spruce Run opened up a two length advantage through the stretch and went on to win The Spend A Buck in a time of 1:35:3.  American Prince ran second as Davy Jones held on for third.  Spruce Run is a three year old colt owned by Golden Dome Stable, trained by Linda Rice and was ridden by Jose C. Ferrer.

After a good start Marq Of Beauty led the field through an opening quarter mile of 23:1 followed closely by The Goddess Athird, Miner's Crown and Classy Place.  At the half mile pole The Goddess Athird put a head in front of Marq Of Beauty and ran the half mile in a moderate 47:1 as Marq Of Beauty ran closely in second as Classy Place continued to track the leaders in third position.  As the field rounded the far turn Marq Of Beauty regained the lead but the entire field was now only separated by about three lengths from first to last position.  In the stretch Marq Of Beauty opened up on the field and drew off to a two and one-half length lead as The Goddess Athird tried to keep pace while Diversa, who was running in the back of the pack early on, was now making up ground in deep stretch.  At the wire Marq Of Beauty won the Captive Miss by one and one-half lengths at the wire.  Diversa a got up by a half-length for second as The Goddess Athird ran third.  Marq Of Beauty is a three-year-old filly owned by Richard D. Schibell, trained by Todd A. Pletcher and was ridden by Chris DeCarlo.

Tumacacori took the early lead, after a good start, and dictated the early pace running the opening quarter mile in 23:4. Just Beforemidnite took up the chase in second while Thistyranthasclass was taken back and rated of the early leaders in third position.  Down the backside, Thistyranthasclass dragged jockey C.H. Marquez, Jr., to the lead at the half mile pole as Sea Of Tranquility was now taking up the chase in second position as the field moved into the far turn.  Moving out of the turn Thistyranthasclass maintained a head length lead over Sea Of Tranquility as the two were now putting distance between themselves and the rest of the field.  The two leaders battled through the stretch as Thistyranthasclass had a half length lead with one hundred yards to go, but at the wire Sea Of Tranquility battled back, after a vigorous stretch duel, to get up by a nose at the wire to win the Jersey Breeders' Handicap. Thistyranthasclass ran second while Joey's Law was up for third. Sea Of Tranquility is a five year old horse owned by Triple M. Farm, Inc., trained by Richard E. Paulus and was ridden by Jose C. Ferrer.

Batique took command early and dictated every fraction in the race. After establishing a one length lead at the half mile pole, tripping the tele-timer for the half in 46:1, Batique was able to relax on the lead. Gaviola, Luck Lune and Melody Queen all tried to stay with the leader as the field moved through the far turn. Into the stretch Batique drove through the lane opening up a four and one-half length lead mid-stretch before holding onto win by two and one-half lengths at the wire over Melody Queen, who ran second, and another three-quarters of a length back to Luck Lane who was up for third.  Batique is a five-year-old mare owned by Helen K. Grove, trained by Laird George and was ridden by Jose C. Ferrer.  

 

Batique wins the Grade III Vinery Matchmaker Handicap.

R. Encounter led through an opening half mile of 22:4 while being tracked closely by Up Front.  The two were a good seven lengths clear of the field as U.S. Gold and Sea Soul ran third and fourth just staying in contact with the leaders. As the field moved through the turn Sea Soul moved on the outside to take the lead as U.S. Gold moved into second position while R. Encounter dropped back to third as the field exited the turn running three-quarters in 1:13:0.  Through the stretch and to the wire U.S. Gold took command running by Sea Soul, drawing off by a widening four and three-quarter lengths to win the first leg of the Malouf Auto Group Starter Series.  Sea Soul finished second nine and one-quarter lengths in front of R. Encounter who held on for third.  U.S. Gold is a six-year-old gelding owned by Maggie Moss and My Son My Son Stables, trained by Gary C. Contessa and was ridden by C.H. Marquez, Jr.

After a good start Tugger took early command running an opening quarter in 22:2.  A head length back was Go Carolina, Curious Treasures took up the chase in third as Cedar Knolls was laying three lengths off the pace in fourth position.   Through the stretch Tugger continued on gamely as Cedar Knolls made his run but was too little to late as Tugger drew off to win The Klassy Briefcase by five and three-quarter lengths as Cedar Knolls ran second two and three-quarter lengths in front of Curious Treasures, who after stalking the early lead held on for third.  Tugger is a four-year-old filly owned by Anstu Stables, trained by Todd A. Pletcher and was ridden by Jose Velez, Jr.
