Slew O'Joy took the lead after a good start and lead the field through the  first quarter in a time of 24:2.  Into the clubhouse turn Slew O'Joy continued on the lead pressed by Captive Audience and Dare to Cope as the field made their way to the back-stretch. Captive Audience then put a head in front mid way down the backside before giving way to Laurica at the end of the backstretch.  In the turn Captive Audience took the lead back and a two horse battled ensued between Captive Audience and Laurica entering the homestretch.  In deep stretch the two horse battle gave way to the oncoming Dare to Cope who came driving on the outside to get up and win The Captive Miss Stakes by a half-length on the wire.  Dare to Cope is a three-year-old filly owned by The Headless Horsemen Racing Stable, trained by Timothy A. Hills and was ridden by Tommy Turner.

Tekken took the lead early in the race, after a good start,  and posted a quarter mile in 23:3.  Siftaway tucked in second and Golden Dice ran third in on the rail.  As the field moved on to the backstretch the top three positions remained the same as Tekken got the half-mile in 48:1.  Entering the far turn El Mirasol made a move three wide and Siftaway moved along Tekken as the three moved together into the homestretch.  El Mirasol straightened out in the lane a found his best stride taking the lead late and winning by three-quarters of a length over Phi Beta Doc who got up for second.  El Mirasol,  who won The Bet Twice Stakes for the second consecutive year, is a five year old horse owned by Gil Thompson and Jim Velsor, trained by John H. Forbes and was ridden by Chuck C. Lopez.

Riley's Heat set the early pace leading the field into the turn by two lengths.  Debby d'Or pressed the pace as the field left the turn into the homestretch.  As the leaders made their way into deep stretch Debby d'Or took the lead with a hundred yards to go and drew off to win The Klassy Briefcase Stakes by a length and a quarter.  Debby d'Or is a five year old mare owned by Albert Lobrillo, trained by Daniel G. Switzer and was ridden by Stewart Elliott.

Solar Appeal took the lead after a good start and established a two length lead at the quarter mile marker in a time of 22:4.  Solar Appeal was pressed by Viva Pentelicus but maintained the lead through a half mile in 47:3.  Viva Pentelicus drew alongside the leader at the half mile marker but Solar Appeal got away again entering the far turn.  Mid-turn Cyber Chat and King Finesse found their best strides drawing three wide as the three leaders (Solar Appeal, Cyber Chat and King Finesse) spun out of the turn into the homestretch.  The three did battle into deep stretch before Cyber Chat pulled a neck in front and held on to win at the finish.  Still Married made a game run on the outside and got up for second.  Cyber Chat is a seven year old gelding owned and trained by Michael J. Moran and was ridden by Nick Santagata.

After a good start, Fancy Footwear took the lead and was pressed by Cosmic Rain through a quarter in 21:0.  Fancy Footwear lead through the turn and into the stretch.  Entering the stretch Cosmic Rain gave way in second to the oncoming drive of Desert Sky.  In a prolonged bid Desert Sky took the lead in deep stretch by splitting horses Fancy Footwear and Curious Treasures and went on to win the 2000 edition of The Ocean Hotel Stakes in a time of 55:2.  Desert Sky is a three-year-old filly, owned by William J. McAlpin, trained by John Kimmel and was ridden by Joe Bravo.

Disco Rico took the early lead from a good start by the entire field.  Don't Tell The Kids and Max's Pal pressed Disco Rico through an opening quarter mile in 21:1 as the field entered the turn.  After running the half in 43:3 Disco Rico established a two-length lead entering the stretch over Max's Pal.  In deep stretch, Max's Pal made one last effort to take the lead but was denied by Disco Rico as he held on to win the Grade III event by a head on the wire, in a time of 1:09:0.  Disco Rico is a three-year-old colt owned by Alfred Di Rico, trained by Valora A. Testerman and was ridden by Joe Bravo.

Red Weasel took the lead after a good start followed by Charlie Kenney and Proud Premier as the field moved into the clubhouse turn.  Rio San Padro was noticeably wide in the first turn removing all chance at contention in the race.  Red Weasel posted a quarter of 22:4 as the field moved down the backside. Red Weasel was still in front as the group reached the half-mile pole in a time of 45:3.  Charlie Kenney, Loyal Groom and Broadcaster followed the leader as the group moved through the far turn.  Red Weasel carried the lead into the stretch as Loyal Groom, G.R. Rabbit and Charlie Kenney were all trying to catch the leader.  At the same time Selective was making his way through the field moving towards the leaders.  In deep stretch Loyal Groom collared Red Weasel but to no avail as Selective made a driving move in on the rail and took the lead 75 yards from the wire to go on and win The Bernie Dowd Handicap by a length at the wire.  Selective is a seven-year-old gelding owned by Char-Mari Stable, trained by George F. Gross and was ridden by Chuck Lopez.
