Betting favorite, Golden Made ran just off the two leaders in third. As the field ran through the far turn Silent Serenade opened up her lead to a full length passing the quarter pole running the half mile in 45:03. Misspent overtook second as Prime Juice was loosing ground on the rail, now in third, as Golden Made was still tracking the leaders in fourth position. In deep stretch, Silent Serenade drew clear by two lengths from Misspent, who was clearly second best on this day, as the real race was for third as Joyeux Noel, Golden Made and Now Listen Sister battled neck and neck for the show spot. At the wire Silent Serenade won the 2002 Open Mind by four and one-quarter lengths as Misspent finished second while Now Listen Sister edged out Joyeux Noel for third. Silent Serenade is a six-year-old chestnut mare owned by C. L. S. Stable, trained by Charles J. Carlesimo and was ridden by Dean Butler. |

$50,000 A Handicap For Three-Year-Olds And Upward Registered New Jersey Breds 6 Furlongs Saturday, May 12, 2002 Race 9 Main Track: Fast Turf: No Turf Racing Finish Wire: Country Music led the field from the gate through an opening quarter of 22:08 as Red Weasel pressed the leader a head back in second while H.M.S. Jackson rated just off those two in third position. Dixie Two Thousand and Whopaho ran fourth and fifth as the field made its way through the far turn. Red Weasel took the lead passing the quarter pole running the half-mile in 45:21. Country Music was contesting the lead but had already done his best running for the day. Dixie Two Thousand was now making his best move, five wide in third, as H.M.S. Jackson was also putting in his best run. In the stretch, Red Weasel led by two and one-half lengths as H.M.S. Jackson was contending in second as Dixie Two Thousand was still giving his best in third. Summer Swing, after running far back early on, was now advancing on the outside as the field made its way in deep stretch. At the wire, Summer Swing, after a prolonged stretch run, got up by a neck at the wire to win the 2002 Edition of The John J. Reilly Handicap. $50,000 For Fillies, Three Years Old 6 Furlongs Saturday, May 18, 2002 Race 3 Main Track: Sloppy Turf: No Turf Racing Finish Wire: With the scratches of Formal Dress, Castelli Miss and Shawklit Mint, the race was left with three starters: Bold World, Intent and Cherokee Girl. The three horse field was sent off to a good start as Bold World led the field through the opening quarter in 22.74 as Cherokee Girl ran second while Intent was back in third. At the half-mile pole Bold World drew clear by three and one-half lengths as Cherokee Girl was still running second. Intent was two lengths further back in third. In the stretch, Bold World opened up under a hand ride and won the 2002 running of The Little Silver Stakes by five and one-quarter lengths on the wire. Intent closed on Cherokee Girl for the place as Cherokee Girl settled for the show spot. Bold World is a three-year-old filly owned by Hardacre Farm, trained by Ronald James Taylor and was ridden by Joe Bravo. |

$50,000 For Fillies, Three Years Old One Mile - Turf Saturday, May 25, 2002 Race 8 Main Track: Fast Turf: Firm Finish Wire: Cat Rocket led the field through an opening half-mile in a moderate 48.34 as Katie Kreitz and Agbayani tracked the leader intently in second and third. Midnite Deelite ran fourth a length in front of betting favorite Affirmed Dancer and Once Around. Five and one-half lengths separated the entire field down the backside. As the field made its way through the far turn Cat Rocket maintained his lead, but only by a head, as Katie Kreitz and Affirmed Dancer moved in second and third while Once Around moved into fourth position as the field entered the stretch. In deep stretch, Affirmed Dancer moved to the lead and tried to pull away but was caught nearing the wire as Once Around found running room and came on to win the Revidere by a neck in a final time of 1:37.30. Affirmed Dancer ran second as it was another length and one-half back to Midnite Deelite in the show spot. Once Around is a three-year-old dark bay/brown filly owned by G. Watts Humphrey, Jr., trained by Vicki Oliver and was ridden by Joe Bravo.

$100,000 Grade III A Handicap For Three-Year-Olds and Upward One Mile Turf Saturday, May 25, 2002 Race 10 Main Track: Fast Turf: Firm Finish Wire: Key Lory took the lead and led the field though an opening quarter mile (23.70) and half-mile (47.65) as Pyrus ran second through both fractions within a length of the leader. Spruce Run was content to track the two leaders in third as Mr. Livingston ran in fourth position. Betting favorite Boastful ran in an unhurried eighth position. At the three-quarter split Key Lory had widened his lead to a full length over Pyrus, who was running on the inside before getting shut off entering the stretch giving way to other horses. Spruce Run continued to run evenly in third position but was five wide entering the lane. In the stretch, Key Lory continued to open up his lead as it was now a length and one-half to Sardaukar who was making his bid, after running in the pack early on. Spruce Run continued to hold the third spot as the field made its way through the stretch to the wire. At the wire, Key Lory, under a steady urging from Harry Vega, prevailed in the Grade III Red Bank with a one-length victory over Sardaukar, who ran second, as Spruce Run held on for third. Key Lory is an eight-year-old chestnut horse owned by Mack Fehsenfeld, trained by Dennis J. Manning and was ridden by Harry Vega.

$50,000 For Three-Year- Olds and Upward One Mile - Main Track Sunday, May 26, 2002 Race 10 Main Track: Fast Turf: Firm Finish Wire: Tempest Fugit took the early lead and paced the field through an opening half-mile of 46.96 as Judge's Case and betting favorite and high weight, Jarf, ran in second and third separated by a neck. The Cool Grape was fading into fourth as the field made its way down the backside. As the field made its way through the far turn Tempest Fugit gave way to Sea Of Tranquility, who made a big move to go from seventh to the lead through the far turn, now putting distance between himself and the others with every stride. Jarf was now laboring in third and was starting to level out. Summer Swing was on the move passing horses on the far outside. In deep stretch, Sea Of Tranquility opened up by three lengths as Tempest Fugit, after setting the early fractions, was now holding on for second as he was no match for the leader. Summer Swing continued his progression through the pack nearing the wire. At the wire, Sea Of Tranquility had opened up to a seven and three-quarter length lead and won the Frisk Me Now Stakes in easy fashion as Tempest Fugit held off the fast closing Summer Swing for the place spot. Summer Swing finished third. Sea Of Tranquility is a six-year-old chestnut horse owned by Triple M Farm, Inc., trained by Richard E. Paulus and was ridden by Jose C. Ferrer.

At the wire Sparkling Number, after his prolonged drive on the rail, got up by a neck to win the Thomas J. Malley Stakes as Merry Princess, who was close throughout the race, ran second while Maypole Dance, the early pacesetter, held on for third. Andie led the field through an opening half-mile in a pedestrian 48.63 as Southern Fiction tracked the leader a half-length back in second. It was another two lengths back to Weepecket running unhurried in third position. Through the far turn Southern Fiction put a head in front as he geared up for the oncoming stretch drive while A.P. Andie was starting to tire as the field entered the stretch. In the stretch, Southern Fiction found another gear and opened up by two lengths as Unrestrained was now running his best after traveling three wide in the far turn. Away, the betting favorite, moved into third position as the early leader, A.P. Andie, was now retreating in fourth position. At the wire Southern Fiction was the winner of The Monmouth Beach Stakes by one and one-half lengths over Unrestrained as Away held on for the show spot. $100,000 Grade III For Three-Year-Olds One and One-Eighth Miles - Turf Monday, May 27, 2002 Race 9 Main Track: Fast Turf: Firm Finish Wire: Emergency Status cleared the field leaving the turf chute and led the opening three-quarters of a mile in 1:11.87 as Justoneofdaboyz ran a length back in second while Touring England was in good position running third down on the inside. Entering the stretch Emergency Status spurted away by three lengths and never looked back as Kris's Prayer closed from back in the pack with Rapadash nearing the wire. At the wire, Emergency Status, the longest shot on the board at 55/1, won the Grade III Jersey Derby by three lengths on the wire as Kris's Prayer finished second in front of the fast closing Rapadash who got the show spot. Emergency Status is a three-year-old bay colt owned by Henick Stable, trained by Derek S. Ryan and was ridden by Roberto Alvarado, Jr.
