Finish Wire:

After a good start Knockout Kid led the field down the backside being pressed by Red Weasel, a half-length back.  Spectacular Slew ran third two more lengths back and Thistyranthasclass was content to sit forth stalking the leaders through a quarter in 21:4. Knockout Kid led the through the turn still holding the lead over Red Weasel as Thistyranthasclass was starting to gain some ground as the field ran the half mile in 44:1.  As the field came out of the turn Thistyranthasclass made a move to the outside and got clear, taking the lead and never looking back, rolling through the stretch with an impressive turn of foot to win the John J. Reilly by two and three-quarter lengths over Just Beforemidnite who beat Knockout Kid by a neck for second.  Thistyrnathasclass is a four year old colt, owned by Roseland Farm Stable, trained by John Tammaro, III and was ridden by C.H. Marquez, Jr.

Thistyranthasclass, ridden by C.H. Marquez, Jr., wins the John J. Reilly.

The field was sent off to a good start as Her Halo cleared the field from the five hole and led the through clubhouse turn and down the backside. The field ran as a group through the opening half-mile as three lengths separated the entire field.  The quarter was run in 24:0 and the half mile was run in 47:4.  Entering the far turn Her Halo was being pressed by Hemline and Final One as Cousin Gigi and Bayou Blues started to tail off. Entering the stretch Her Halo spurted clear and drew off by three lengths to win the Politely Stakes by three lengths over the betting favorite Hemline, while it was another six plus lengths back to Final One who ran third. Her Halo is a five year old mare owned by Acclaimed Racing Stable, trained by Allen Iwinski, and was ridden by Chuck C. Lopez.

Her Halo draws off to victory in the 2001 Politely Stakes with Chuck C. Lopez in the irons.

Olimax took the early lead after a good start for all and led the field past the grandstand for the first time running the quarter mile in 23:3.  Go Baby Go pressed the pace a head behind the leader and both were trailed in third by Classy Place.  Zonk settled in fourth and Lady Diplomat brought up the rear.  Olimax continued on the lead and ran the half mile in 47:1still being pressed by Go Baby Go as the betting favorite Zonk was now looming in third, gearing up for the stretch drive. Through the turn Zonk captured the lead as Olimax gave way and Go Baby Go started to weaken giving way to Lady Diplomat who was now running second.  Through the stretch and to the wire Zonk held on to win the 2001 Revidere Stakes by one and three quarter lengths in front of Classy Place who got up for second and Lady Diplomat, who after drifting out in the stretch managed to hang on for third place.  Zonk is a three year old filly owned by Fox Hill Farm, trained by John C. Servis and was ridden by Jose Velez, Jr.

Jose Velez, Jr. and Zonk win the 2001 edition of the Revidere Stakes.

The field was sent off to a good start as Mystic Lady went to the lead to set the pace.  Mongoose ran second a half length back as the two opened up a five length lead over the rest of the field as the leader posted a quarter mile time of 23:3.  The two leaders ran almost in tandem as they increased their lead over the field to seven lengths at the half mile marker in a time of 46:2.  Sir Brian's Sword was trying to take up the chase in third as What's Your Wish ran fourth.  As the two front runners entered the stretch, in what track announcer Larry Collmus called a match race between Mystic Lady and Mongoose, Mystic Lady started to pull away as Mongoose was running out of gas while the field was now gaining ground.  At the wire Mystic Lady held on to win the  2001 edition of the Jersey Derby over the oncoming closers Sir Brian's Sword, who got up for second, and What's Your Wish who ran third.  Mystic Lady is three year old filly owned by Lee Lewis, trained by Mark A. Hennig and was ridden by Filiberto Leon.

Mystic Lady, inside, edges out Sir Brian's Sword at the wire to win The Jersey Derby.

Finish Wire:

Lightning Paces took the lead after a good start, pressed by Gone Fishin, and proceeded to dictate the first three quarters of a mile running split times of :24, :48 and 1:12:1.  Runspastum, Asidero and Western Summer all scrimmaged for third place tracking the leaders closely as the field made its way through the far turn. Leaving the turn Gone Fishin drew up alongside Lightning Paces and then passed him just before crossing the turf shute as Runspastum and Western Summer were now gaining on the leader ready to overtake him in deep stretch.  At the wire Pavillon, who ran mid pack most of the race, ran gamely to get up and score by a neck to capture the 2001 Red Bank Handicap.  Western Summer was up for second over Runspastum settled for third.  Pavillon is a seven year old horse owned by Rio Aventura Stable, trained by Martin D. Wolfson and was ridden by Joe Bravo.

Joe Bravo gets Pavillon to the wire first to win the Red Bank Handicap.

Finish Wire:

After a good start Testame took the lead pressed by Protist and Rudirudy as the three vied for the lead down the backstretch. The quarter mile was run in 21:4 as Testame maintained a head length lead over Rudirudy who was rating right off the leader as the two ran in tandem through the turn and into the stretch.  The half mile went in 44:3 as the two leaders battled through the stretch leaving the rest of the field behind. At the wire Rudirudy put a neck in front, after a prolonged stretch drive, to win the Wolf Hill beating a game effort by Testame as Erlton ran third another two and one-quarter lengths behind. Rudirudy is a six year old horse owned and trained by Gaston D. Sandoval and was ridden by Eibar Coa.  

 

 Eibar Coa guides Rudirudy through the driving rain to victory in the Wolf Hill.

Harmony Lodge took the lead out of the gate and set the pace down the backside pressed by Kidsarefun.  Gigi's Magic and Appealing Satin ran a distant third and fourth in the four horse field.  Harmony Lodge ran the opening quarter in a freakish 21:1 as she started to draw away from Kidsarefun halfway through the turn.  Appealing Satin was now running in third.  The half mile was run in 43:4 as Harmony Lodge was now drawing away, leaving the field of four behind, running all alone through the stretch and to the wire winning the Little Silver Stakes by nine widening lengths at the finish.  Appealing Satin ran second as Gigi's Magic held on for third as Kidsarefun backed up after not being able to gain the lead at the beginning of the race. Harmony Lodge is a three year old filly owned by Eugene Melnyk, trained by Todd Pletcher and was ridden by Eibar Coa.

 

Eibar Coa pilots Harmony Lodge to an impressive win over a sloppy track in the Little Silver Stakes.

Unreal Party and Dixie Hope were both out of the gate in good order and scrimmaged for the lead down the backside as Forest Heir tracked the leaders patiently in third position one and one-quarter lengths back. Unreal Party ran the quarter mile in 21:4 as Dixie Hope continued to press the pace as Forest Heir was gearing up to go three wide as the front runners were now coming out of the turn. The half mile went in 45:0 as Forest Heir made his move mid stretch and took the lead drawing off to win the Crank It Up Stakes by one and one-quarter lengths at the wire.  Unreal Party held on for second after setting the early fractions and American Century, after running in the back early on, got up by a neck for third. Forest Heir is owned by New Farm, trained by Ben W. Perkins, Jr., and was ridden by Joe Bravo.
