Good weather, good purses and
good horses leads to good racing. Opening weekend at
Monmouth Park was just that, good racing. And for the
23,000 plus fans that attended the races this past weekend,
they
were treated to good cards and excellent features including Smokume winning the Decathlon Stakes in Saturday's feature.
The four-year-old, Allen Jerkens trainee, came back to the
shore to add another piece of hardware to her trophy case
after winning the 2004 Gilded Time Stakes. Click the

A big weekend of stakes action
was capped off by two big Jersey Bred wins. The first
coming on Sunday, July 3rd as Smart N Classy won The Grade III
Eatontown Handicap for owners Roseland Farm Stable. The
second was from Joey P. (pictured above) as he won
impressively in The Grade III Jersey Shore Breeders' Cup
Stakes on Monday July 4th. The Frank Costa trainee ran
his record to five for five lifetime covering the six furlong
distance in a stakes record time of 1:08 1/5. The win
gave Costa his first graded stakes victory as a trainer. |

Better Talk Now takes command
nearing the wire, after stablemate Shake The Bank set the
pace, for the victory in The Grade I United Nations Stakes.

The holiday weekend was
loaded with stakes racing action at the shore oval.
Above, Better Talk Now, from the Graham Motion barn, passed
stablemate and pacesetter Shake The Bank late to win The
Grade I UN. In other action Joey P. won The Grade III
Jersey Shore BC Stakes in stakes record time for trainer Frank
Costa giving him his first graded stakes win of his career. |

Haskell weekend was kicked off
in grand style on Saturday, August 6, with the 2005 Edition of
The Colleen Stakes for two-year-old fillies. Trainer Jim
Ryerson's barn has been hot and his trainee Livermore Valley
kept the barn clicking on all cylinders winning the Colleen
Stakes in impressive fashion for owner Conover Stable.
