Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies

After the break posttime favorite Dreaming Of Anna would be four wide but on the lead by a half length eventually going wire to wire to win The Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies by a length and one-half at the wire in a final time of 1:43.81.  Octave had to steady mid way through the race but did manage to regain momentum and finish second while Cotton Blossom finished evenly for third.  Dreaming Of Anna is a two-year-old chestnut filly owned by Frank Carl Calabrese, trained by Wayne Catalano and was ridden by Rene Douglas.

Bessemer Trust Breeders' Cup Juvenile

There were a few horses pinched or stumbling at the break including Circular Quay and U D Ghetto and Matt Magic.  Principle Secret would lead the field through the opening half-mile of 46.67 before giving way and being eased.   Pegasus Wind would then hold the lead very briefly before giving way to Street Sense who came up the rail to take the lead at the top of the lane and then drew off by ten lengths to win The Bessemer Trust Breeders’ Cup Juvenile in a final time of 1:42.59.  Circular Quay would close for second after the bad start as Great Hunter would also finished well for third after a rough trip in the first turn.  Street Sense is a two-year-old dark bay/brown colt owned by James B. Tafel LLC, trained by Carl Nafzger and was ridden by Calvin Borel.

My Typhoon would take the lead near the mile marker from early pacesetter Dancing Edie as the field moved into the stretch.  In the lane an oncoming group of closers including Ouija Board Honey Ryder moved to the leader who was desperately trying to hold her slim lead.  Nearing the wire Ouija Board showed her class after her five to six wide move in the far turn opening up by two and one-quarter lengths to win The Emirated Airlines Filly & Mare Breeders’ Cup Turf in a final time of 2:14.55.  Film Maker would finish second a neck in front of Honey Ryder in third.  Ouija Board is a five-year-old dark bay/brown mare owned by Lord Derby, trained by Edward Dunlap and was ridden by Frankie Dettori.

Posttime favorite Henny Hughes stumbled at the break and spotted the field a couple lengths leaving the gate.  Attila’s Storm led the field through the opening quarter in a swift  21.55 while Bordonaro and Thor’s Echo chased the leader in second and third.  Through the far turn Thor’s Echo was three wide moving into the lead as Attila’s Storm was starting to retreat in second as Bordonaro was still in with a chance in third.  Through the lane Thor’s Echo continued to widen his lead drawing off to win The TVG Breeders’ Cup Sprint by four lengths at the wire in a final time of 1:08.80.  Friendly Island finished willingly for second while Nightmare Affair closed well for the show spot.  Thor’s Echo is a four-year-old chestnut gelding owned by Royce S. Jaime Racing Stable, Inc. and Suarez Racing, Inc., trained by Doug O’Neill and was ridden by Corey Nakatani.

At the break Aragon, Sleeping Indian, Rob Roy, Araafa all had some trouble or were just tardy.  Silent Name would go to the lead and led the field through opening fractions of 23.32, 46.76 & 1:10.98 taking a head length lead into the lane.  Badge of Silver was close to the leader throughout in second as Miesque’s Approval moved into third after a seven wide move through the far turn.  In deep stretch Miesque’s Approval wore down the leaders and drew off to win The NetJets Breeders’ Cup Mile by two and three-quarter lengths in a final time of 1:34.75.  Aragon after the early trouble with the starting gate closed well for second while Badge Of Silver finished third.  Miesque’s Approval is a seven-year-old bay horse owned by Live Oak Plantation, trained by Martin Wolfson and was ridden by Eddie Castro.

Healthy Addiction would lead the field through the opening half-mile before giving it up to Pool Land passing the three-quarter marker.  During the early running of the race postime favorites Fleet Indian and Pine Island would leave the race.  Fleet Indian would be pulled up while Pine Island broke down.  In the far turn Round Pond would find room in traffic and take the lead as the field straightened out into the stretch and then drew off to win The Emirates Airlines Breeders’ Cup Distaff by four and one-quarter lengths in a final time of 1:50.50.  Asi Siempre finished second but was disqualified and placed fourth as third place finisher Happy Ticket would move to second and Baletto was place third after being bothered in the lane by Asi Siempre.  Round Pond is a four-year-old bay filly owned by Fox Hill Farms, Inc., trained by Michael Matz and was ridden by Edgar Prado.

After the break Icy Atlantic went to the front and led the opening mile of the race getting the distance in a brisk 1:37.76.  Rush Bay, who tracked the leader through the opening mile would then take the lead into the lane as English Channel would move to the leader and put a head in front as the field made its way through the lane.  In deep stretch English Channel would falter as Red Rocks came out of the pack on the outside, after a six wide move in the far turn, and moved to the front nearing the wire to score a half-length victory over the fast closing Better Talk Now by a half-length to win The Breeders’ Cup Turf in a final time of 2:27.32.  Better Talk Now was just short in second as it was another two and one-quarter lengths back to English Channel who held on for third.  Red Rocks is a three-year-old dark bay/brown colt owned by J. Paul Reddam, trained by Brian Meehan and was ridden by Frankie Dettori.

George Washington was a bit stubborn to load into the starting gate but eventually went in and the field was sent off to a good start.  Brother Derek went to the lead and led through the opening three-quarters in a decent 1:11.11 as Lawyer Ron and Lava Man tracked the leader as the field made its way down the backside into the far turn.  In the turn Bernardini, the posttime favorite made a five wide move after being a bit further back than normal, and moved into first place coming off the final turn as the early pacesetters were throwing in the towel.  In the lane Invasor, after moving seven wide on the final turn was moving quickly down the middle of the track and passed Bernardini nearing the sixteenth pole and drove to the wire holding off the favorite by a length at the wire to win The Breeders’ Cup Classic, powered by Dodge, in a final time of 2:02.18.  Bernardini was second best as it was another two and one-half lengths back to Premium Tap in third.  Invasor is a four-year-old bay colt owned by Shadwell Stable LLC, trained by Kiaran McLaughlin and was ridden by Fernando Jara.
