After a good start Successful Mission was sent to the front by Chuck C. Lopez and was able to rate through fractions of 23.21, 46.11 and 1:10.24 while maintaining a one length advantage over Hockley and Schoolyard Dreams as the field moved into the lane.  In the stretch Successful Mission responded under urging and quickly drew off to win The 2011 Elkwood Stakes by seven and a quarter lengths in a final time of 1:35.01.  Hockley was second best while Schoolyard Dreams was third.  Successful Mission is a five-year-old dark bay/brown gelding owned by Live Oak Plantation, trained by Edward Plesa, Jr. and was ridden by Chuck C. Lopez.
