After a good start Hugo led the field through
the opening half-mile in 46.66 as Prussian sat off the early leader
some three lengths behind in second while Chitoz ran another length
back in third. In the far turn Prussian would take the lead
from Hugo, as the leader was now starting to back up, running
second. Chitoz remained in third as the field made its way
into the stretch. Prussian was game on the front nearing the
wire but was beaten by a tough nose by El Sultry Sun on the inside
winning The Lamplighter Handicap in a final time of 1:41.01.
Prussian was a game second while Run Salty Runs was up for third.
El Sultry Sun is a three-year-old chestnut colt owned by Live Oak
Plantation, trained by John Kimmel and was ridden by Eddie Castro.
