After the break Gotcha Gold went to the early lead and set swift fractions on the lead getting six furlongs in 1:10.34, as Wanderin Boy, Discreet Cat and Corinthian rated behind the leader in second - fourth positions. Posttime favorite Discreet Cat was third as the field made its way into the stretch. In the lane Corinthian went by Gottcha Gold and all in front of him and exploded through the lane going on to win by six and one-half widening lengths in a final time of 1:39.06 to win The Breeders' Cup Dirt Mile. Pacesetter Gottcha Gold was second while posttime favorite Discreet Cat was third. Corinthian is a four-year-old chestnut colt owned by Centennial Farms, trained by James A. Jerkins and was ridden by Kent Desormeaux.
