The Rutgers University Stakes

$100,000

For Three-Year-Olds

One And One-Sixteenth Miles - Monmouth Turf Course

Wednesday, October 24, 2007   Race 9

Main Track: Good    Turf: Good

Finish Wire:

Pace to Dream lost his rider at the break. An inquiry sign was posted immediately. Bugagali led for a mile and was pressed by Longley, Thundering On By and Pleasant Strike. The loose horse affected the pace of the race as he made his way to the front and the jockeys of the other animals were cautious to make sure he did not interfere and cause an accident.  War Monger would circle the field four wide in the turn and make a run for the leader in the lane as Bujagali was starting to tire.  In deep stretch War Monger would draw off to win The Rutgers University Stakes by a length and a half on the wire in a final time of 1:41.82 over the Monmouth Course labeled as good.  Pleasant Strike would get up by a neck for second while early pacesetter Bujagali finished third.  War Monger is a three-year-old bay colt owned by Peter Vesgo, trained by William I. Mott and was ridden by Kent Desormeaux.
