Bear Now led the field through the first turn and down the backside while being leaned on by Hystericalady. Through the far turn Hystericalady put away Bear Now but Ginger Punch moved on the fence to the lead with Hystericalady now outside. Octave was rolling through the field with a big head of steam in third making strides on the leaders as the field made its way through the stretch. In deep stretch Ginger Punch, who was now a head behind, never quit fighting back and put her head back in front of Hystericalady at the wire to win The Breeders' Cup Distaff in a final time of 1:50.11. Hysterical Lady was a game second a neck in front of Octave finishing third. Ginger Punch is a four-year-old chestnut filly owned by Stronach Stable, trained by Robert J. Frankel and was ridden by Rafael Bejarano.
