After a good start Avery Hall and Final Assault dueled the opening
half-mile on the lead as Key To Love and Dressed For Succes tracked
the leaders in third and fourth position. Entering the far turn Avery
Hall took back the lead by a half-length from Final Assault as Cigno
D’Oro geared up four-wide as the field moved past the quarter pole
into the stretch. In the lane Avery Hall was holding on by a
desperate neck as Cigno D’Oro was gaining with every stride as the two
neared the wire together. At the wire Cigno D’Oro got up by game neck
for the score in The Spruce Fir Handicap in a final time of 1:44.29.
Avery Hall was also game in defeat as Key To Love was third. Cigno
D’Oro is a six-year-old chestnut mare owned by G. J. Stable, trained
by Robert J. Durso and was ridden by Edward King, Jr. |
