After the break More Smoke went to the front and never looked back cutting fractions of 21.21, 44.32 and 1:10.04 going gate to wire for the victory in the Select Stakes by five lengths at the wire. Lieutenant Danz finished willingly for second a half-length in front of Miracle Man who rallied mildly for the show spot. More Smoke is a three-year-old gray/roan colt owned by Thomas McClay and Harry Nye, trained by John Charles Zimmerman and was ridden by Clinton Potts.
