The Fort Monmouth Stakes

$60,000

For Fillies and Mares, Three Years Old And Upward

One Mile - Turf Course (Haskell Course)

Monday, May 30, 2005 Race 8

Main Track: Fast    Turf: Good

Finish Wire:

The field was sent away to a good start except for Orkan who was shuffled back at the start.  Can You See Me Now went to the lead and led the field through the opening six panels tracked closely by Melody Of Colors, who was never more than a length back, as the Capeside Lady and Brunilda were just off of those two in third and fourth.  As the leaders reached the stretch Brunilda got through on the rail and took the lead passing the eighth pole going on to win The Fort Monmouth Stakes by a half-length on the wire in a final time of 1:36.87.  Bright Abundance was six wide in the turn and battled gamely through the stretch for second, as it was another two and one-quarter lengths back to Krasnaya in third.   Brunilda is a five-year-old chestnut mare owned by Cobra Farm, Inc., trained by Stanley M. Hough and was ridden by Chuck C. Lopez.

Brunilda, with Chuck C. Lopez in the irons, wins The Fort Monmouth Stakes.
