As a result of this race being taken off the turf course and run on the main track five of the eight entrants in this race scratched leaving two: Toll Taker and Ruby Martini and the main track only entry Pleasant Lyrics.  At the break Ruby Martini broke slowly and let her two other rivals battle for the early lead as the field made its way into the clubhouse turn.  Toll Taker led Pleasant Lyrics through the opening three calls by a half-length.  As the field made its way down the backside the leaders left Ruby Martini behind in what turned out to be a match race.  The leaders were neck and neck through the turn getting three quarters in 1:11.48.  In the lane Pleasant Lyrics had put a head in front and looked like should would start to draw off however Toll Taker came back up the inside as there was some contact between the two.  Passing the sixteenth pole Toll Taker put her head back in front of Pleasant Lyrics and held on to win The Boiling Springs Handicap by a neck on the wire in a final time of 1:44.36.  Pleasant Lyrics settled for second as Ruby Martini was well back in third.  Toll Taker is a three-year-old bay filly owned by Sea Gull Associates, trained by Timothy A. Hills and was ridden by Aaron Gryder.

Toll Taker will not be denied winning The Boiling Springs Stakes by a neck at the wire.
